Solar Buzz
The most buzz-worthy solar industry news from the past week.
- The rising number of solar rooftop installations in Australia is causing concerns of too much energy flooding the electricity grid. Low electricity demand creates "energy spill" that could cause some problems as the system struggles to control power.
- More than 2,000 photovoltaic panels will be installed on the roof of Port Macquarie Base Hospital. It will be the largest hospital solar power system, generating 609 kilowatts of electricity. The Port Macquarie Base Hospital has been chosen as a site for the solar project to demonstrate that it is a cost effective and sustainable option for hospitals across the country.
- Two of the biggest players in WA’s gas-propelled economy are starting to look to renewables to slash their gas use as doubts rise about how big a role the fossil fuel will play in the transition to clean energy.
- Just a week after confectionery company, Mars, announced its plans for its Australian operations to go 100% solar, consumer goods giant Unilever says its Australian manufacturing plants will run entirely on clean energy within two years.
Rally Update!
It was another exciting weekend as Team MV Solar raced in the 2018 Bega Rally. Michael experienced some technical difficulty and was not able to continue the race. Tim and Elle, on the other hand, brought the team to victory.
