The most buzz-worthy solar industry news from the past week.
- Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull of Australia abandoned plans for emission targets Monday, bowing to pressure from conservatives who considered toppling Mr. Turnbull’s government over an energy policy that aimed to reduce prices and bring the country into line with international climate change commitments.
- New South Wales is in line for its largest wind, solar and battery hybrid project called the Sapphire Renewable Energy Hub, which will feature around 470 MW of renewable energy capacity.
- At present, people and businesses with rooftop solar systems have two choices. They can consume the energy they produce themselves or feed it back into the electrical grid. However, one company wants to give those who generate their own solar energy a third option — sharing it with others.
- Cala Luna, a luxury hotel in Costa Rica, provides a green retreat that’s about to get even greener. While Cala Luna has already attracted attention for its sustainability efforts, the hotel has launched new initiatives that will make it completely solar-powered and carbon-neutral by 2019.
