Getting More From Solar

Written by MV Solar | Aug 21, 2015 5:28:00 AM

Over time you will notice the benefits of having solar on your home. It may be in the form of the money you get back from your excess power generated, or the savings you notice on each quarterly power bill.

Seeing these benefits has prompted people to ask the question- what can I do to improve on my system?

The most common thing that people will look at doing to their system is adding more solar panels.

A number of installations when solar first came onto the market are smaller systems- two to three kilowatts. When you look at the average system size now, we are talking about five kilowatts on a regular size family home.

This is 800 amp hours of storage recently installed by MV Solar near Singleton, NSW

If your system was installed prior to June 2012, you may be enjoying the Gross Feed portion of the Small Scale Technology Government Incentive. If this is the case, we may need to have further discussions with you in relation to just how we go about making the upgrade, as the metering now is different to when your system was installed.

Adding more panels will increase the power generated by your system.

If you already have a larger system you may be considering taking yourself off the grid, either completely or partially.

A hybrid system allows you to have a small battery bank that will store excess power rather than sending it back to the grid and you can use that power in the evenings before drawing in more from the grid.

If you want to be completely self sufficient, then a stand-alone system may be just what you are looking for. Stand-alone systems have a large battery bank that store everything your panels produce and your home will draw power from them directly. These systems are generally hooked up to a diesel generator as a back up.

Hybrid and stand-alone upgrades can be costly to install as there is a lot of elements to the process, but if you want to get away from power companies they will get you one step closer.

As new products come onto the market the team at MV Solar is busy investigating them and sharing what we learn with customers. From solar panels and inverters to lights for the garden path, we are here to help with your solar power needs.
